Program covers were often commissioned like art and versions of it were used across a spectrum of marketing material. This cover from 1931 was designed by French artist Jules Laget. Featuring Hermes, Master of Lions and Greek God of trade, wealth, animal husbandry, language, and travelers, holding the Caduceus, a symbolic staff of a herald. Under his protective gaze, guests and vendors alike arrive safely to the Princes’ Gates, eagerly anticipating a day at the fair.
