To help the country recover from the Great Depression, the Canadian Government promoted efforts to bolster the economy in the mid-1930s. Similarly, following the theme of Canada’s Recovery Year in 1936, the CNE made every effort to support the local community including the construction of the Bandshell which increased the CNE’s ability to promote and showcase musicians including the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, military bands and big bands, expanding space for manufacturing exhibitions, and supporting over 500 artists, largely Canadian, by featuring their works in the CNE Art Galleries.
